About El Paraiso

Hidden in the lush, mountainous region along the Honduras–Nicaragua border sits El Paraíso, a ten-hectare coffee farm in Ocotal, Nueva Segovia. The name — “The Paradise” — couldn’t be more fitting; the farm is wrapped in vibrant greenery and a thriving forest canopy, giving it a serene, almost magical atmosphere.

El Paraíso stands out for its commitment to diversity and quality. It grows multiple Arabica varieties under a rich mix of native trees, practicing agroforestry — a system where coffee thrives beneath layered, mature forest cover. This careful approach has earned the farm numerous awards, from local competitions to several recognitions at the prestigious Cup of Excellence.

Coffee farmer

The driving force behind the farm’s evolution is Hipólito Acuña Morales, a young, progressive producer representing the new wave of coffee growers. When he took over the family land in the early 2010s, he began steering it toward specialty production. Beyond the traditional Catuai, he planted celebrated varietals like Gesha, Java, and Maragogype, transforming the farm into a living showcase of coffee genetics.

Hipólito is also an entrepreneur at heart, running a building materials store in the nearby village — a reflection of both his community roots and business spirit.

Ripe cherries are handpicked and delivered to the Bridazul beneficio, where they are processed using a range of methods, from classic washed to carbonic maceration, depending on the lot.

El Paraíso is not just a farm — it represents a vision for sustainable, innovative coffee cultivation, deeply connected to its environment and heritage.
