About El Renacer

El Renacer named so for the beginning of a new era, a new future in specialty coffees, Javier Salas saw a dream to develop unique flavors and chose the Geisha variety without knowing its potential: “I chose it out of intuition, out of love,” he says. His charisma, discipline, and desire to learn led him to win first place in the Santa Teresa 2024 Local Championship of Differentiated Specialty Coffees.

Sabino Peña, Javier’s father, inherited the land in the highest mountains near the Salkantay snow-capped peak, at 2200 meters above sea level, on rocky loamy soil — a terroir miracle, as I call it — ideal for producing high-quality coffee. But before discovering their future with Geisha, they had to spend over 10 years cultivating passion fruit and avocados, the main crops that provided income but without recognition for their work.

Coffee farmer

In 2019, a new birth, a new decision: Javier planted Geisha seedlings, thanks to the specialty coffee project and the recommendation of a group of friends. Javier expresses his gratitude for the support he received from his fellow farmer friends — a perspective of respect, a dream, a new beginning.
